So this is one of the reasons why i havent been online much as of late. i've slowy been putting this baby together and finally today my mini wireless keyboard with mousepad arrived from hong Kong so i thought i'd put some pics up for you all to see.

Wanted to make a media centre but didnt want to clutter up what little room i had available.

This is what i had to work with:

1 Wooden dresser
2 x Noctua 92mm Fan
1 x Noctua 140mm Fan
1 x OCZ Fatalt1ty 550W Modular PSU
1 x Zalman CNPS7000C CPU Cooler
1 x Intel Core i3 530 Processor
1 x Gigabyte GA-H55M-S2H Motherboard
1 x Asus ENGT240 Graphics card
2 x 2GB G Skill 4GB DDR3-1600 [Ripjaws]
1 x Creative Sound Blaster Audigy sound card
1 x 1.5TB Western Digital Hard Disk
1 x 2TB Western Digital Hard Disk
1 x Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit

firstly i had to cut up and old case to get a hard drive rack

Cut two holes in the back of the dresser, one for the cables, the other for the fan, put some fan ducting in as well so the rear fan didnt just suck the air into the dresser. got the fan ducting from here http://www.mnpctech.com/FanDuct.html

Cut some holes in the drawer and mounted the fans

Thank fuck for modular psu's otherwise there'd be a shitload of extra unused cables taking up what little space was available

Found a couple of 92mm aluminium fan grills on ebay for $1 each. plus bought the on/off button from here http://www.mnpctech....ant_Switch.html

the end result

plus i hooked up my 5.1 surround sound speakers to it so the neighbours will really hate my ass lol

needed some form of remote control, so i found this on ebay, http://cgi.ebay.com....=item53e2030d6d

mini wireless keyboard with mousepad, took a pic and stuck my phone next to it just to give you an idea of the size of it

Left it running for 24 hours with a movie on loop to gt an idea of the temps under full load, chip had a max of 36c and vid card had a max of 34c, hard drives peaked at 27c woohoo!!!!

Haha, that is awesome. I love creative cases. Surprised at those temps though, much lower than mine. But I guess partly cause it's summer here.
My friend makes some pretty cool cases too if you want to check them out: http://www.epicpc.com.au/ . But he dishes out the big bucks on equipment and stuff, so it's not the same style of course.

Excellent! A unique combination. I have never seen "1 wooden dresser" included as a computer case - and it is still functional as a wooden dresser! Out of curiosity, why did you choose a 64-bit operating system for a media system? Won't that cause some compatibility issues for you, given that most media software is 32-bit? How loud are the 92mm fans? Also, the keyboard is fantastic, how do you like the RII Mini? Any problems with interference with other devices? Thanks for sharing.

You should also get the iPhone app that lets you control your computer from the phone, that would work great with a media center. :)

Yeah i tried a copy of iphone apps, but wanted something my girl could use, and she doesnt have an iphone so i decided to go with the mini keyboard. Really impressed by the range on it as well, all this considering the usb receiver is mounted inside the drawer itself. As for the 64bit OS i wouldnt think of using anything but 64 these days, especially with a minimum of 4gb ram in any of my machines. Had no issues with any combatibility of anything of any sort, windows 7 media centre rocks with the 3 extra plugins i got for it, they had 64bit versions. fans are noctua they are renowned for their quiteness.

Couldn't say, I don't have an iPhone or anything, I've just heard about it.

Thanks guys

no need for a dvd or blu ray player in this baby, drilled a hole in the floor behind the unit and have run a network cable into it so when i download movies onto one of my other machines i just transfer them across the network onto the media centre.
